NORWALK, Ohio — A Norwalk man was in serious condition at a Toledo hospital yesterday following an accident Friday in which his motorcycle collided with a van in Huron County's Lyme Township, authorities said.

Donald Gaines, 59, was flown by helicopter to Medical College of Ohio Hospitals after initially being treated at Fisher-Titus Medical Center, Norwalk.

He was driving his motorcycle west on State Rt. 547 at 12:55 p.m. when it collided with a van being driven north on Sandhill Road by Charles E. Pippin, 34, of Norwalk, troopers at the Norwalk post of the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Mr. Pippin, who was not hurt, failed to yield to Mr. Gaines, who was not wearing a helmet, troopers said. The crash remains under investigation.
