The Lucas County Republican Party executive committee nominated county Chairman Bernadette Noe last night to fill a vacant GOP seat on the Lucas County Board of Elections.
The nomination will be forwarded to Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell, a Republican, who has the final say.
Ms. Noe replaces her husband, Tom, who stepped down from the board on Aug. 6 to take a seat on the Ohio Turnpike Commission.
“This has been the seat on the board that historically has been held by the party chairman,” Ms. Noe said. “I gave it a lot of thought.”
Ms. Noe, a lawyer, said she decided to take the seat after receiving a letter of endorsement from elected Republican officials in the county.
The board of elections has four members - two Republicans and two Democrats. In the case of a tie, Mr. Blackwell casts the deciding vote.
