A 30-year-old Toledo man died early yesterday when he lost control of the motorcycle he was riding on West Bancroft Street and hit a brick building on Sylvan Avenue near Detroit Avenue, police said.

George E. Harold, Jr., of 1519 Fernwood Ave. was pronounced dead at the scene about 7:25 a.m., Steve Kahle, Lucas County coroner's investigator, said.

Police said Mr. Harold was traveling east on Bancroft with another motorcyclist at a high rate of speed about 7:15 a.m. Mr. Harold left the roadway to the right and struck a pole before hitting a brick building.

The accident forced police to close Bancroft for a short time.
