BLUFFTON

Some of the 101 Bluffton College students who participated in cross-cultural trips sponsored by the college over the summer will discuss their travels at 11 a.m. tomorrow in Founders Hall as part of the Bluffton College Forum. It is free and open to the public.

Dr. Daniel Smith-Christopher, professor of religion at Bluffton College, will present “Jacob and Esau: An Experiment in Non-violent Exegesis of the Bible” at Friday Colloquium at 4 p.m. Friday in Stutzman Lecture Hall in Centennial Hall. It is free and open to the public.

BOWLING GREEN

Michael McGuire, a former partner at Arthur Andersen, will speak about values and ethics in business management at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union at Bowling Green State University.

The Wood County Park District is sponsoring an American Red Cross First Aid class, which will include adult, child, and infant CPR, from 6 to 10 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, and Thursday at Otsego Park. Register with the Wood County office of the Red Cross.

Mitsuhiko Yamashita, head of the engineering arm of Nissan Motor Co., will speak about the “Product-Focused Turnaround at Nissan” at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union theater.

Park district volunteers are needed to help clean the greenhouse at the Agricultural Incubator on State Rt. 582 just west of State Rt. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Junior naturalists ages 6 to 12 will learn how to identify different animals by looking at their teeth from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Otsego Park. Register with the park district.

Learn how to identify trees by looking at their leaves and other interesting characteristics from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Creeks Preserve near State Rt. 51 and Walbridge Road. Register with the park district.

Kappa Alpha Order is hosting a music festival to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday in the Sky Bank parking lot on Clough Street. Three bands, including headliner Oval Opus, will perform. Food and children's games also will be featured.

FINDLAY

Students, scouts, and others making leaf collections can join Bobbie Sue Grenerth in collecting and identifying leaves at Riverbend Recreational Area off State Rt. 568 east of Findlay from 4 to 5:30 p.m. tomorrow. Contact the Hancock Park District for more information.

The Oiler Environmental, Safety and Health Organization and the Criminal Justice Club at the University of Findlay will sponsor the 2nd annual Fear Factor competition and barbecue Saturday. Open to UF students and alumni, community members, and high school science students, participants will be mentally, physically, and emotionally challenged in a series of events. Participants must register by Wednesday with Mary Martin at martinm@findlay.edu.

The Hancock Historical Network, a group of Hancock County organizations interested in local history, will sponsor its Heritage Days Festival Saturday and Sunday at Riverbend Park just east of Findlay. The festival includes a Civil War encampment with Yankee and Confederate re-enactors, living history vignettes, music, speakers, historical displays, antique appraisers, and food. The events begin at 11 a.m. Saturday with a Civil War flag presentation and at 9 a.m. Sunday with a Civil War church service.

LIMA

Sue Clover, a retired home economics teacher who has been researching Ohio's symbols, will make a presentation on “Ohio's Symbols: A Celebration of Ohio's Bicentennial” at 3 p.m. Sunda at the Allen County Museum. An Ohio birthday cake will be served afterward. The event is free and open to the public.

PERRYSBURG

The Harley-Davidson Traveling Museum will be on display from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Signature Harley-Davidson & Buell, 1176 Professional Dr. The exhibit features classic VJ Block Fits: Block Depth: 14.61i Expansion .08i (B3) motorcycles, memorabilia, and rare images that chronicle 100 years of motorcycle history. The event includes live music, free food, and cold beverages.

PERRYSBURG TOWNSHIP

A job fair is set for 1 to 5 p.m. tomorrow in the Student Health and Activities Center on the Owens Community College campus, 30335 Oregon Rd. People attending should take resumes and dress professionally.

Care Fair for Health 2003 will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Student Health and Activities Center on the Owens Community College Toledo-area campus, 30335 Oregon Rd. More than 50 displays will share information about cancer prevention, tissue donation, health care careers, and other health topics.

SYLVANIA

Pultizer Prize nominee Sister Helen Prejean, who wrote Dead Man Walking: An Eye-Witness Account of the Death Penalty, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Franciscan Center at Lourdes College, 6832 Convent Blvd. She will be available for book signing after the lecture.

TOLEDO

Toledo Museum of Art curator Larry Nichols will preview the museum's upcoming show on Dutch artist Hendrick Goltzius during a meeting of the Toledo English-Speaking Union at 8 p.m. today in the banquet room at Georgio's, 426 North Huron St. The talk will be preceded by a cash bar at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. Cost is $28 per person.

A free seminar on Social Security benefits will be offered at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow in the Point Place branch library, 2717 117th St. Call Morgan Stanley's Toledo office for reservations.

Author and Wall Street Journal special projects editor Ellen Pollock will speak on “Lessons From the Marty Frankel Scandal and Why It Will Happen Again and Again” at noon Wednesday in the University of Toledo College of Law auditorium.

A vigil honoring national Banned Book Week will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the basement of Carlson Library on the University of Toledo campus. Several UT professors will speak throughout the day on topics including freedom of expression and the law, Nazi book burning, book banning and libraries, and hate speech.

The Secor Gardens Senior Association, Inc., will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at Flory Gardens Community Room, 3425 Nebraska Ave. Topics will include plans for an expanded senior citizen program, sewer problems, and University of Toledo students.

A voter education and registration program will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday at UAW Local 12, 2300 Ashland Ave. The program will explain the new touch screen system for voting and allow residents to register to vote or apply for absentee ballots.

Glenn Fitkin, Jr., will give a slide presentation about his tour of China four years ago during the Friday luncheon of American Legion Toledo Post 335. The event begins at noon in the Toledo Club, Madison Avenue and 14th Street.

The fifth annual Sole Sisters Walk will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday. The two-mile walk begins at the gazebo in International Park. The event raises funds for Women Blessing Women, a program that assists women experiencing poverty, abuse, drug addiction, or homelessness. Call Women Blessing Women to register.

The library staff will describe resources for screenwriters, fiction writers, poets, and technical writers during a workshop at 10 a.m. Saturday in the SkyBank meeting room at the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, 325 Michigan St.
