9 nonprofits win $206,275 in grants

Nine northwest Ohio nonprofit groups received $206,275 in grants from the Toledo Community Foundation's board of trustees.

The beneficiaries are:

  • Toledo Fair Housing Center - $12,340 for its predatory lending remediation program, which helps victims of predatory lending renegotiate loans.

  • FOCUS, Inc., Toledo - $6,000 for its survival skills for men program.

    This helps homeless men learn skills to stabilize their lives and find employment.

  • Hands of Grace, Delta - $10,300 to expand its staff, who offer a variety of services for the elderly and people with disabilities in Fulton County, including respites for caregivers, homemaking and repair services, transportation, and adult day care.

  • Diabetes Youth Program, Toledo - $29,000 to help children with diabetes, parents, caregivers, and educators learn how to better control the disease using an intensive therapy management program.

  • Lourdes College, Sylvania - $18,000 for the Partnership for Catholic Education that offers incentives for teachers to start work at under-served Catholic elementary schools, and provides professional development for teachers who are already working at those schools.

  • Center for Successful Aging at the Medical College of Ohio, Toledo - $9,135 to assess residents over 60 years old in 21 counties in northwest Ohio to find and offer training and counseling to the visually impaired and blind.

  • Northwest Ohio Development Agency, Toledo - $36,900 for the Individual Development Accounts Program, which helps lower income families save money and obtain home improvement loans.

  • St. John's Jesuit High School, Toledo - $49,600 over two years to provide academic support, ACT/SAT preparation courses, and parent mentors for economically disadvantaged students in the 2020 Jesuit Scholar Program.

  • United Way of Greater Toledo - $35,000 over two years for the Grant Resource Centre that centralizes grant research, proposal writing, and consulting for local nonprofit organizations.
