Fulton County selects new treasurer

10/10/2003

WAUSEON - After voting three times to reach a majority, the Fulton County Republican Party Central Committee picked the county's deputy treasurer last night as county treasurer.

Beverly Schlosser, who has worked in the county treasurer's office since 1985, was appointed by a majority of the 25 committee members present for last night's meeting. She replaces Denny Hales, who announced his resignation in March.

Sandra Barber, chairman of the central committee and county recorder, could not say how many votes Mrs. Schlosser received.

The committee interviewed and voted on four candidates - two of whom were eliminated for receiving the lowest amount of votes after the first two ballots, Mrs. Barber said.

Mrs. Schlosser, who lives in Clinton Township, is a lifelong resident of Fulton County. The current term expires in September, 2005, and the seat will come up for election in November, 2004. The treasurer supervises two deputy treasurers and is paid $40,000 a year.

Mrs. Schlosser defeated Joe Damman, vice president of State Bank and Trust Co. in Wauseon; Brett Kolb, manager of Kolb & Son Photo Equip, and Alan “Pete” Wyse, a registered investment representative with FSC Securities Corp. in Archbold.

Mrs. Schlosser was employed at National City Bank in Wauseon from 1970 to 1985, through two name changes. It was Peoples State Bank Co. when she started and then Ohio Citizens Bank before becoming National City. She was employed as a teller, in bookkeeping, and in operations and investments over the years.

Mrs. Schlosser could not be reached for comment last night.
