Alfie Kohn, who writes on human behavior, education, and social theory, will speak Wednesday as a part of Adrian College's convocation series beginning at 12:15 p.m. in Dawson Auditorium.

  • A family festival, sponsored by Lenawee County 4-H programs, will be held Saturday at the Lenawee County Fairgrounds, 602 North Dean St. There will be a craft show, a petting zoo, and a dog agility demonstration, as well as a pork-and-turkey dinner from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

    Lima Mayor David Berger will discuss revitalizing communities at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Yoder Recital Hall during the Bluffton College Forum.

    BOWLING GREEN

    The Northwest Ohio Technology Fair is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday in the Lenhart Grand Ballroom of Bowling Green State University's Bowen-Thompson Student Union. The free event includes presentations on roller coasters by Cedar Point staff, digital video as a teaching tool, and a robotics display by COSI.

  • Hope Taft, Ohio's First Lady, will speak at 11 a.m. Friday in the Lenhart Grand Ballroom of Bowling Green State University's Bowen-Thompson Student Union.

  • The Wood County Park District has its annual Halloween Folklore and Funfest at 6 p.m. Saturday at Wood County Historical Center and Museum.

    MAUMEE

    A scarecrow competition is part of the second annual Scarecrow Festival, a free family festival from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday on the grounds of the Wolcott House Museum Complex, 1031 River Rd.

  • Candidates for the two Maumee school board seats will be available for questions at a forum at 7 p.m. Sunday in the auditorium of Gateway Middle School, 900 Gibbs St. The public can submit questions in advance to Jim Windnagle at Maumee High School, 1147 Saco St.

    Anyone with questions about the Swanton school levy is invited to forums scheduled for 7 p.m. tomorrow at Swanton Alliance Church and 7 p.m. Thursday at Park Elementary School.

    The Toledo Club of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs is holding a candidates forum with city council, school board, and library officials at 6 p.m. today at the Sanger branch library, 3030 West Central Ave.

  • Anyone seeking legal advice can speak to attorney James Perlman for free from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. tomorrow at Warren AME Church, 915 Collingwood. The walk-in service is part of the Law Tuesday program sponsored by the Toledo Bar Association and Pro Bono Program.

  • The University of Toledo Minority Alumni Affiliate and Northwest Ohio Black Media Association will host a debate with Toledo clerk of courts candidates Theresa Gabriel and Vallie Bowman-English at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Nitschke Hall at the College of Engineering.

  • The Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence is holding a National Day of Concern about Young People on Wednesday. At 10:30 a.m. at Queen of Apostles School, 235 Courtland St., sixth graders will take a pledge against guns.

  • Author-activist Robert Meeropol will discuss “Capital Conspiracy: The Death Penalty in Post 9/11 America” at noon Thursday at the University of Toledo College of Law.
