Elections board probes Fostoria councilman

11/11/2003

FOSTORIA — The Ohio Elections Commission is investigating a complaint filed against a successful candidate for a Fostoria City Council seat.

In a letter dated Oct. 28, Fostoria resident Joan Nelson alleged that Paul Feasel violated state election law by using a bus owned by Bliss Corp. in his campaign, and that he failed to display the proper disclaimer on the vehicle. The letter cites a section of the Ohio Revised Code that limits the use of corporate or union funds or property for political purposes.

Mr. Feasel, president of Bliss Corp., defeated Mrs. Nelson's husband, Jerry, and Pam Shoemaker in the race for the city's 2nd ward council seat Nov. 4. Mr. Feasel, who was appointed in May to fill the vacant seat, said that he received legal advice that he could use the bus in his campaign, and that one side of the vehicle displayed the required disclaimer.
