Libraries get extensive work

Scaffolding surrounds the Ellis branch of the Monroe County Public Library. Renovations are well under way at Monroe County s two busiest library branches. The Bedford branch of the Monroe Public Library on Jackman Road is in the midst of a $3 million expansion project that will double the size of the facility to 30,000 square feet when it reopens next fall. The Ellis branch library along M-50 last week finished Phase II of a multi-year renovation project, redoing much of the exterior of the building, which was built in 1958. The $180,000 project improved energy-efficiency, drainage, and the building s entryway, and followed interior work completed about three years ago. A third phase of renovations is planned for 2004.
