Republican woman picked to take over clerk duties

The vice president of the Fulton County Republican Women was unanimously chosen to replace the imprisoned Roger Morr as York Township clerk by the township trustees last week.

Anna Norman, 35, a part-time human resources manager at Haas Door Co. in Wauseon and a mother of two girls, was to be sworn in this week. She had been a member of the Fulton County Republican Central and Executive Committees before moving to County Road D in the township.

She has been active in political campaigns for years, including helping her husband Roy Norman, the organizational director for Farm Bureau in Fulton, Henry, and Williams counties, spread its positions on state issues, she said.

Trustees chose Mrs. Norman from five applicants for the position. They interviewed two, trustee John Trowbridge said.

She replaces Morr who is to finish his 45-day sentence in the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio on Dec. 7.

Morr, 60, had used his position as a branch manager at First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Delta to trick longtime friends into buying bogus investment securities.

Prosecutors said Morr received $140,000 from eight people who believed they were investing in certificates of deposit that were federally insured, but instead Morr used the money to pay off a debt that he incurred from a bad investment in a trucking company.

Morr made restitution to the victims for the money he received as well as the interest they would have earned.

He resigned in January from the financial institution where he had been employed for 40 years and filed for bankruptcy protection last month.
