Delphos gets grant to battle drug trade

DELPHOS, Ohio - City officials vow to use money from the national pharmaceutical company Purdue Pharma Technologies to buy equipment that will help the police department fight drug trafficking.

Delphos, a city of about 7,000 residents 85 miles southwest of Toledo, received an unrestricted award in the amount of $10,000 to help fight the war on crime.

Purdue Pharma produces OxyContin, a prescription painkiller in increasing demand in the illicit drug trade. The company, based in Stamford, Conn., has begun a campaign to fight illicit drug use as well as addictions to prescription medication.
