COLUMBUS - The state Controlling Board has released $3 million for the Bayfront Paper District improvement project in Sandusky.

Local and private funds will match the money as part of a $6.9 million effort to buy an 18.9-acre industrial site at 401 West Shoreland Drive. Sandusky officials hope the property will be developed into 243 condominiums, a 10,000 square-foot restaurant, and a marina. The project is expected to create 183 new jobs.

The $3 million grant will be used to acquire the land and buildings, demolish the Tricor Building and a structure connected to the Chesapeake Building, and clean up the site by removing asbestos and soil.
