Sylvania Township forms panel to examine fire facilities

4/16/2004

An advisory committee was formed last night by the Sylvania Township trustees to make recommendations about facilities for the township's fire department.

A recent study recommended that the department's four fire stations should be situated to the west of their current locations and that a fifth station should be constructed in the northwest portion of the township.

Dennis Boyle, chairman of the trustees, said the committee will set its own agenda, but he said he'd like recommendations sometime this summer.

Trustees have said there may be a levy request on the November ballot for the fire department.

"This committee will only study fire department facilities," he said. "We aren't asking for anything concerning manpower."

The committee will have about 12 members, according to Brad Peebles, township administrator. He said not all prospective members of the committee have yet been determined.

Jim Schwerkoske, a trustee, said the membership will include both township and city officials as well as a representative from the board of education.

He said it is the township's intention to have representatives from business and from the public as part of the group.
