Fremont-area trail bids exceed state's estimate

FREMONT - Three bids for construction of a section of the Sandusky County Park District North Coast Inland Exercise Trail came in substantially higher than a state estimate.

Moser Construction of Fremont offered the apparent low bid at $2,267,582, compared with the state estimate of $1.5 million.

City engineer John Kusma said that by state law, all three bids must be rejected because they came in more than 10 percent above the estimate. The bids will be reviewed by city and state transportation officials before a decision is made on when to seek new bids.

Fremont is getting $1.3 million from the Ohio Department of Transportation to help fund construction of the section from Smith Road to Hayes Avenue in Fremont. The trail has a 6.5-mile paved section that runs between Clyde and Fremont.
