Laura Schultz, a 1983 graduate of Monroe County Community College, has received the college's 2004 outstanding alumnus award for the second year in a row.

She is CEO of the Monroe County chapter of the American Red Cross and is an instructor for American Red Cross Disaster and International Services and HIV/AIDS.

She serves on the board of directors for several organizations, including MCCC's alumni association and is a member of National Association of Social Workers.

She is a guest lecturer at Eastern Michigan University, where she is working on her master's degree in public administration.

Sylvania Southview High School students Henry Foo and William Cheng, were two of the 10 Ohio students selected by Ohio Academy of Science to compete in the INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair in Portland earlier this month.

The students were chosen for their scientific research project at the recent Buckeye Science and Engineering Fair held at DeVry University in Columbus. Henry and William's science project was a team effort.

To qualify for the fair, students must conduct research that includes lab experiments, field work, and subject interviews.

Jonathan Steineman, a student in Ohio State University's Fisher College of Business, was recently inducted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, an honors organization for first and second-year students.

The finance major is also a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta and the Phi Eta Sigma national honor societies.

He is a 2002 graduate of Sylvania Northview High School.

Samuel Dungar of Maumee, a Boy Scout with Troop 210 in Holland, was awarded the Eagle Scout rank at a ceremony held recently at the First Baptist Church of Greater Toledo.

For his Eagle project, he organized a work force to install playground equipment at the church.

A member of the Order of the Arrow, he has earned 28 merit badges and has served as patrol leader and bugler, among other positions. He is now troop guide.

Sam is a junior at St. John's Jesuit High School.

David Welles, Jr., of Maumee, director of Therma-Tru Doors, has been elected to the board of trustees of the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges.

OFIC raises funds and contributions for 35 independent Ohio colleges and universities in Ohio.

He is a graduate of Yale University and chairman of the policy advisory board to the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies.

In 1995 he received the entrepreneur of the year, northwest Ohio manufacturing, award.
