Owens athletes receive honors

The following 32 Owens Community College student-athletes received Academic All-Ohio Community College Athletic Conference honors in recognition of their scholarly achievements in the 2003-04 academic year (Selection criterion is based upon achieving a minimum 3.3 grade point average):

Kyle Cousino (Whitmer, soccer 3.62).

Amy Czupich (Bedford, volleyball, 3.54).

Monica Decker (Central Catholic, softball, 3.69).

Jeremy Diekman (Genoa, basketball, 3.53).

Adam Dunn (Whitmer, baseball, 3.70).

Caroline Eboumbou (Paris, France, basketball, 3.55).

Scott Zaciewski (Whitmer, baseball, 3.48).

Central Catholic High School graduate Matthew Siedliecki is the 2004 recipient of the George Filby Memorial Scholarship Trust.

Siedliecki, of Perrysburg, was a catcher and a standout on the football team. He maintained a grade point average over 4.0. Siedliecki will attend the University of Chicago.

The trust was established in memory of former baseball coach George Filby, who who died unexpectedly in 1999. He coached at Waite and DeVilbiss high schools.

The trust is aimed at increasing the interest and devotion to high school baseball players in the Toledo area.
