7/17/2004

MONROE - Monroe County sheriff's detectives are seeking help in finding a young woman who is suspected of robbing two Monroe Bank & Trust branches in less than a month.

The woman, described as in her early 20s, about 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with strawberry blond hair and a heart-shaped tattoo on the left side of her neck, robbed the bank's Dundee branch Thursday afternoon.

She also is believed to have robbed the Frenchtown Mall branch on June 23.

In both instances, the suspect entered the bank with a handgun concealed in a manila envelope. A note on the envelope demanded money. She is believed to have fled the Dundee branch in a small green pickup truck with Michigan plates.

According to FBI statistics, the vast majority of bank robbers - about 95 percent - are men.

Monroe County sheriff's Detective Dave Davison said the cases represent the first female serial bank robber he can remember striking locally, "and I've been around here for over 30 years."

Anyone who has information about the robberies or the woman is asked to contact the Monroe County sheriff's detective bureau at 734-240-7530.
