Laura Ann Zima, 11, of Sylvania Township, was crowned second runner-up in the Miss Ohio American Pre-Teen Pageant held July 23 and 24 in Columbus, Ind. She competed against 15 girls ages 10 to 12 and was judged in evening wear on poise, appearance, and personality. The pageant is sponsored by American Coed Pageants.

Laura was also second runner-up in the spokes model and sportswear modeling categories. She was named the Most Promising Model and has been invited to the national pageant in Orlando, Fla. over Thanksgiving weekend.

She is a student at Maumee Valley Country Day School and enjoys writing, acting, and horseback riding.

Harry Lublin, a retired certified public accountant from Toledo, has been named an honorary member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

He is a retired partner of the firm Lublin, Sussman, Rosenberg and Damrauer, now known as LublinSussman Group. Honorary membership is given to CPAs who have been members of the AICPA for 50 years.

Jeremy Cervenec of Rossford, a senior at Ohio State University, will be part of the Homecoming Court during the Ohio State-Indiana University football game on Oct. 23. He is an accounting and finance major and active in several campus groups.

Abbey Damon of Archbold, a junior at OSU, will also be in the Homecoming Court.

Richard Smillie of Toledo, a junior at Denison University in Granville, Ohio, has been chosen as a research assistant through the Reid and Polly Anderson Scholarship Endowment. Along with 32 other science majors, Mr. Smillie will conduct in-depth research with faculty members during the summer.

He is a 2002 graduate of Sylvania Southview High School and is a biochemistry major.

Casandra Flogaus of Delta, a student at Pike-Delta-York Middle School, will appear in the U.S. Achievement Academy Official Yearbook as an honor roll student.
