Ohio EPA sets hearings for Catawba-area work

8/13/2004

PORT CLINTON - The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has scheduled a public hearing for later this month to discuss two proposed projects in Catawba Island Township.

The first project, submitted by ODNR's division of parks and recreation, calls for the construction of a new stone revetment at Catawba Island State Park.

Officials said the revetment, slated to be about 150 feet long, would provide erosion protection. About 345 cubic yards of stone would be placed below the ordinary high water mark.

The second project is proposed by the Nor-Easter Club and would involve building a protected marina on the northern end of West Harbor. The marina would open on the north side.

The two projects will be discussed during a public information session, which will be followed by a public hearing, starting at 7 p.m. on Aug. 25 at the Port Clinton city hall at 1868 East Perry St.

In addition to the hearing, the Ohio EPA will accept written comments on the applications through Sept. 1. Those comments should be sent to the OEPA, Division of Surface Water, Permits Processing Unit, P.O. Box 1049, Columbus, Ohio 43216-1049.
