Mrs. Joy Ortyl has developed a dynamic, challenging curriculum for her junior high math and science students to encourage them to work hard and achieve their best. This prepares them well for high school.

She is the advisor for the junior high student council, National Honor Society, and the Math Counts team.

"I challenge each student to work to his or her fullest potential every day, and I expect no less from myself," she said.

Mrs. Ortyl spearheaded the formation of the school's Junior High Identity Committee that meets regularly concerning issues pertaining to the junior high.

This is particularly important in the seventh to 12th grade school building.

Principal Katharine Hurst described Mrs. Ortyl as "a very hard-working, dedicated teacher who cares about all of her students. While she has the reputation of running a 'tight ship,' she is a fun teacher with a great sense of humor."
