BLUFFTON

  • Bluffton University Prof. George Lehman will speak on "Assessing the use of Self-Managed Teams in Health Care Organizations" at 4 p.m. Friday in Stutzman Lecture Hall in Centennial Hall. His lecture is free and open to the public.

    BOWLING GREEN

  • Join the Wood County Park District for a pumpkin-carving contest from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Adam Phillips Shelter at the Wood County Historical Center on County Home Road off U.S. 6 just east of I-75. Cider and snacks will be available. Call the park district to register.

  • James M. Buchanan, a Nobel laureate, will present the keynote address at a conference, "Justice and Global Politics," at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Social Philosophy and Policy Center at Bowling Green State University.

  • The 14th annual Halloween Folklore and Funfest runs from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Wood County Historical Center. Decorate pumpkins, press cider, take a wagon ride or night hike, and tour the museum at this free, family-friendly event.

    DELTA

  • The public can review the proposed management and operation plan for Maumee State Forest during an open house from 5 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at the state forest headquarters, 3390 Fulton County Road D, between County Roads 3 and 4.

    FINDLAY

  • The Students in Free Enterprise team at Owens Community College's Findlay campus will collect professional women's clothing beginning today until Nov. 5 at the Findlay campus atrium. The clothing and accessories will be donated to Findlay's Hope House for the Homeless. The student organization also plans to organize four weekly job training sessions with Hope House residents.

  • Ernest Weaver of the Maumee Valley Historical Society will speak on "The Battle for Leyte Gulf, the World's Last and Greatest Sea Battle in October, 1944" at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Country Church in the Wolcott House Museum Complex, 1031 River Rd. The event is free and open to the public.

  • Hilary O. Shelton, director of the NAACP's Washington Bureau and former executive with the United Negro College Fund, will be the keynote speaker at the Toledo branch NAACP Freedom Fund banquet at 6 p.m. Friday at The Pinnacle in Maumee.

    OAK HARBOR

  • The Community Needs Fair of Northwest Ohio, offering information on special needs agencies and programs in the region, will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ottawa County Early Childhood Center, 8200 West State Rt. 163.

    SPENCER TOWNSHIP

  • A savanna sunset hike will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday in Kitty Todd Nature Preserve, 10420 Old State Line Rd. To register, call the Nature Conservancy.

  • The Nature Conservancy invites area residents to Kitty Todd Nature Preserve at 10 a.m. Saturday to help restore the native wildflower garden there. Volunteers are advised to bring a sack lunch and wear boots, gloves, and comfortable work clothes, particularly long pants.

    SWANTON

  • Residents in the Swanton Local School District can participate in a special Board of Education meeting beginning at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Swanton High School, 601 North Main St., to discuss the 4.34-mill, three-year emergency operating levy request on the Nov. 2 ballot.

  • Adoption Associates, a Farmington Hills, Mich., agency, is holding a program on adopting children at 7 p.m. tomorrow night at First United Methodist Church of Sylvania, 7000 Erie St.

    TOLEDO

  • Lucas County Juvenile Court Magistrate Dennis Parish will speak today at the Lucas County Bar Association noon luncheon at Jackson's, 233 North Huron St. The program begins at 12:30 p.m. Lunch is $9.

  • Free legal advice will be offered by attorney James Perlman at Warren AME Church, 915 Collingwood Blvd., from 6:30 to 8 p.m. tomorrow. The walk-in service is part of the Law Tuesday program, sponsored by the Toledo Bar Association.

  • Irshad Manji, author of The Trouble With Islam: A Muslim's Call for Reform in Her Faith, will be the keynote speaker at the United Jewish Council of Greater Toledo 2005 community campaign event set for 7:15 p.m. tomorrow at Temple B'nai Israel, 2727 Kenwood Blvd. Capt. Nitay Pauker and Sgt. Noam Ohana, both of the Israel Defense Forces, also will discuss their experience during the Palestinian uprising.

  • Marge Piercy, a poet, author, and reproductive rights and peace activist, will read from her recent works at 7 p.m. tomorrow at the University of Toledo College of Law Auditorium.

  • UT Homecoming Community Night will be from 6 until about 9 Wednesday night in the Student Union Auditorium. The event will feature 12 carnival games. A $5 ticket is good for 10 games.

  • The Stamp Collectors Club of Toledo will hold a business meeting and a regular club auction at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Wernert's Corner Civic Association Hall, 5068 Douglas Rd. in West Toledo. Members meet at 6:30; the business meeting and club auction are open to the public.

  • A free Pumpkin-A-Rama is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Erie Street Market. Children ages 2-12 and their guardians can trick-or-treat from noon to 2 p.m. and compete in a costume contest at 10:30 a.m.

  • VFW Post 2510 will hold a can drive Saturday to benefit Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity. Drop off aluminum cans from 1 to 3 p.m. at the post, 617 Second St.

  • The Roger Bresnahan/Mud Hens Chapter of the Society for American Baseball Research will meet at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Roost at Fifth-Third Field. The program includes baseball research presentations by members of the local chapter, dinner, and watching a tape of the 2004 World Series opening game.

  • The annual Lebanese dinner at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral is from noon to 7 p.m. Sunday in the church hall, 3754 Woodley Rd. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children from the church.

    WATERVILLE

  • Judy Justus, an author, lecturer, and historian, will talk about "Indians of the Northwest Territory" at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Wakeman Hall, 401 Farnsworth Rd. The free, public event is sponsored by the Waterville Historical Society.

    WAUSEON

  • Mary Ellen Boomhower, author of the novel Feet First, will discuss her 31-year battle with diabetes from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Fulton County Health Center. The program is free and open to the public. More information is available by calling the American Diabetes Association on West Central Avenue in Toledo.
