Walbridge OKs 2% pay hike

1/6/2005

Walbridge Village Council last night approved 2 percent wage increases for nearly all of the village's 13 full-time and four part-time employees.

Mayor Dan Wilczynski said after the meeting that raises will be retroactive to Saturday and are in line with past increases of 2 to 3 percent a year.

The raises will go to village administrative staff, police, and street and maintenance employees.

One employee will not receive an increase because of unsatisfactory performance, the mayor said.

For the first time, village officials will be asked to award merit raises of up to 4 percent to several employees next month, Mayor Wilczynski said.

"This year, we have instituted a performance appraisal process to provide bonuses to employees who have rated above expectations in their job performance," he said.

He believes merit increases that have been found effective in private business can yield overall operational cost savings for the village.

"I am out here to encourage employees to go beyond their normal duties," Mayor Wilczynski said.
