4th person enters race for Wauseon council

2/17/2005

WAUSEON - A challenger joined the race for Wauseon City Council on Tuesday.

James Parker, a retired U.S. Army officer and substitute teacher, became the fourth candidate to file for the three seats up for election this year. Mr. Parker was defeated in his runs for the Wauseon Exempted Village Board of Education in 2003 and 2001.

This is his first run for City Council.

The three incumbents - council President Karen Krumm, Doug Shaw, and Jeff Stiriz - who are all finishing their first terms on council, filed for re-election earlier.

If seven or more candidates run for council, there will be a nonpartisan runoff on the May 3 ballot.

But if the number is six or fewer, the council race will not appear on the ballot until Nov. 8.

A run-off among seven candidates in 2001 was the only one in recent years.

The filing deadline is today.
