Maumee: Water rates go up; sewer rates likely up

2/16/2005

City Council last week voted to raise the city's water rates by 4 percent in 2005 and 2006.

The rate increases were needed to match increases in the cost of water from the city of Toledo, which sells water to Maumee, Finance Director David Hazard said.

The increases will raise the average homeowner's quarterly water bill by $2.14 this year and by $2.21 in 2006, Mr. Hazard said. The average home uses about 20,000 gallons of water each quarter, which cost $52.07 per quarter in 2004.

Mr. Hazard said city officials are discussing an increase in sewer rates later this year. He said the percentage increase has not been decided.

"We're all over the board right now," he said.

The new water rates went into effect on Feb. 1. The additional increase will take effect on Feb. 1, 2006.

The new quarterly water rates are:

●Up to 7,000 gallons, with a minimum charge of $21.84 for 7,000 gallons or less, the rate is $3.12 per 1,000 gallons. The rate will increase next year to $3.25 per 1,000 gallons.

●For the next 18,000 gallons, the rate is $2.49 per 1,000 gallons. The rate will increase next year to $2.59 per 1,000 gallons.

●For the next 75,000 gallons per quarter, the rate is $2.43 per 1,000 gallons. The rate will increase next year to $2.53 per 1,000 gallons.

●For the next 100,000 gallons, the rate is $2.25 per 1,000 gallons. The rate will increase next year to $2.34 per 1,000 gallons.
