BOWLING GREEN - As many as 2,000 low-income families in Wood County could be getting a little help with their winter heating bills.

Officials with Wood County Job and Family Services told county commissioners Thursday they have approximately $1.2 million in federal funds they plan to distribute in the form of utility payments of up to $750 per household.

Appointments are unnecessary to apply. Beginning March 7, applications may be mailed or dropped off at the agency on East Gypsy Lane Road. Applications will be accepted through May 15 or until the money is depleted. To qualify, applicants' income must be at or below 200 percent of poverty guidelines, which means a gross monthly income of $3,226 or less for a family of four.
