3/24/2005

A 5-year-old Oregon boy on his way home from kindergarten was killed this afternoon when he was struck by a car after he got off a school bus in front of his home, authorities said.

Dameatrius McCreary, a student at Coy Elementary School, got off an eastbound school bus that had stopped in front of the home on Starr Avenue near Berlin Avenue with its warning lights on, Oregon Police Chief Tom Gulch said at the scene.

Dameatrius walked in front of the bus to cross the street to his home and was struck by a westbound car, Chief Gulch said.

The boy was taken by medical helicopter to Toledo Hospital.

The driver had a valid Ohio driver s license, the chief said. No identities were immediately available on the boy or the driver.
