Fostoria mayor nixes plan for interim director

4/21/2005

FOSTORIA Responding to City Council s refusal to pass a pay ordinance for the interim safety-service director, Mayor John Davoli has decided to have the position vacated for now.

The mayor told Kathy Healy that yesterday would be her last in the temporary position because he was concerned that the city might not have funding set aside to pay her.

Council gave a second reading Tuesday night to an ordinance that authorized paying Ms. Healy up to $8,000 for acting as safety-service director while Mr. Davoli searches for a permanent replacement. Ms. Healy is a senior consultant with Clemans Nelson & Associates, a Columbus firm that handles personnel issues for the city.

Mr. Davoli said he was disappointed and frustrated that council disregarded his request to pass the ordinance. Council members said they had questions about the measure and would take it up again in two weeks.

The safety-service director s job opened up March 18 when the mayor dismissed Ralph Wise.
