A West Toledo man died yesterday in Toledo Hospital, about 12 hours after a car in which he was a passenger collided with a tractor-trailer at Berdan and Kelley avenues, authorities said.

Brian Eppink II, 22, of 2829 Kendale Drive was pronounced dead at 2:30 p.m., according to a hospital spokesman.

The driver, Sarah Karamol, 21, also of the Kendale address, was in critical condition last night in Toledo Hospital.

Steven Riley, 57, of Covina, Calif., was turning left from Kelley onto eastbound Berdan about 2:20 a.m when Ms. Karamol's westbound car hit the left side of his 53-foot trailer. Mr. Eppink and Ms. Karamol had to be extricated from the car, police said.

Mr. Riley's trailer was blocking Berdan when the car hit it. A witness said the car didn't slow down before hitting the trailer, police said.
