Lyons water problem noted without solution

LYONS - With water pressure lacking in the west end of town, and with new homes coming to the village, Lyons is thirsting for ways to address some water issues.

During a special meeting last week, village officials asked Fulton County commissioners if the county could offer some assistance, but Commissioner Jack Graf said that at this time, there are no plans in the works and no money available for a water project. However, he said that commissioners could try to see how they might help.

While discussing Lyons' need for additional water pressure, Mr. Graf said that he didn't know whether another water tower would help or not. A new tower would cost an estimated $350,000, said Vicki Smith, Lyons village administrator.

Mr. Graf noted that when it comes to water projects, the "water is cheap," but the cost for the infrastructure is expensive.

Lyons owns its waterlines, but purchases water from the city of Wauseon. Extending a waterline to a portion of the village where residential development could occur has been discussed by the village, but no decision has been made.

Commissioners visited with village officials at the town hall. The session was held at the request of the village.
