Springfield Township: Trustees expect to purchase new roof

Springfield Township trustees are moving toward purchasing a new roof for the township hall, 7617 Angola Rd.

The project is expected to cost between $350,000 and $400,000. It is necessary because of leaks that have caused employees to use buckets to catch dripping water.

Bob Anderson, township administrator, also said there are areas where water sometimes runs down interior walls.

Andy Glenn, chairman of the trustees, said the most serious problems are from the flat roof over most of the township offices.

"It is constantly leaking and we have spent money trying to re-seal and keep the flat roof from leaking,'' Mr. Glenn said.

Because of additions to the original building over the years, there are four separate roofs on the structure, he said.

"Rather than put a bandage on the problem we'd like to solve it,'' he said.

He added that the additions to the original township hall has he said.

He added that the additions to the original township hall has left the building with an uneven look and that one unifying roof should give it a more attractive and uniform appearance.

The township has contracted with the Collaborative Inc., which has suggested a traditional slanted roof.

Mr. Anderson said he hopes to have proposed construction documents prepared for trustees to study at their meeting Monday.

If things go according to that schedule, Mr. Anderson said he hopes to be able to award the job to a contractor by late June.

The township would like construction to begin as soon as possible.

He'd like to see the work done in July and August before the damp weather of fall sets in.
