Radio employee backs broadcast van into power line

A radio station employee wrapping up a live broadcast from a Perrysburg automobile dealership escaped injury yesterday when the broadcast antenna of her van hit a power line while backing up, Perrysburg police said.

The incident at 12:07 p.m. left about 28 Toledo Edison customers without power for about four hours, Chuck Krueger, a utility spokesman said.

Amy J. Simon of WIOT-FM (104.7), a Clear Channel Communications Inc. station, was cited for improper starting and backing, a police report said.

The station had ended a live broadcast from Ed Schmidt Auto Group's dealership at 26875 North Dixie Hwy. when the mast struck the lines over Dixie Highway.

The antenna broke, and a power wire was ripped, the report said.
