PORT CLINTON - A Columbus man was hurt seriously yesterday when the car he was driving went off Plasterbed Road just south of State Road, struck a street sign and a utility pole, and overturned on the Pennsylvania Lines railroad tracks, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

The accident, which happened about a mile east of here, closed the tracks to train traffic for an hour, troopers at the patrol's Sandusky post said.

Timothy J. Riddle, 22, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle. He initially was treated in Magruder Hospital and then flown to Medical University of Ohio Medical Center. An MUO hospital spokesman said last night that no information about Mr. Riddle was available.

Mr. Riddle was northbound on Plasterbed about 2:45 p.m. when the accident occurred. No charges were filed as of last night, troopers said.
