Bowling Green: City reschedules community reading

8/3/2005

The city plans to move its community reading program from spring to fall, asking residents to read The Kite Runner at the same time Bowling Green State University students will be reading the book as part of a common reading experience.

This will be the city's fourth Community Reads effort. Residents will be asked to read the bestseller by Khaled Hosseini, and a series of activities will be planned around themes of the book.

Mary Callahan Boone, a reference librarian at Wood County District Public Library, said moving the program to fall also will allow city school teachers to incorporate the book into their lesson plans.

Set primarily in Afghanistan, The Kite Runner is an intense look at relationships, betrayal, and redemption.

A companion book for younger readers will be announced at a later date, Ms. Boone said.
