Elmore residents to vote on 0.75% income tax hike

8/10/2005

ELMORE Along with a road levy replacement, Elmore Village Council will ask voters to approve an income tax increase on Nov. 8.

Fiscal Officer Robin Damschroder said council Monday night approved asking the Ottawa County Board of Elections for a 0.75 percent increase to be used for general municipal operations and capital improvements.

Voters approved a 1 percent continuing income tax in 1966 that Ms. Damschroder said raises about $300,000 annually. If approved, she said the increase would raise an extra $200,000 a year.

Council also is asking voters to approve a three-year, 3-mill replacement levy in November for general construction and repair of village streets, roads, and bridges. The replacement measure would raise $66,850 a year and would cost a $100,000 homeowner $94.50 annually.
