BLISSFIELD U.S. 223 and Silberhorn Road will be upgraded to handle truck traffic associated with a new ethanol plant using dollars from Michigan s Transportation Economic Development Fund, the Granholm administration announced.

The fund will provide $951,000 toward the cost of left-turn lanes on U.S. 223 at Silberhorn and reconstruction of Silberhorn between U.S. 223 and the plant site to provide all-season truck access.

The grant will match $298,000 from Great Lakes Ethanol and $220,000 in Michigan Department of Transportation district funds.

The $85 million ethanol plant is expected to create 62 jobs next year and produce 50 million gallons of ethanol annually.
