FREMONT - A Fremont man died yesterday in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, five days after he was injured in a bicycle accident on the North Coast Inland Trail in Fremont.

Mark Hottinger, 48, died at 1:45 a.m. yesterday of head and neck injuries, Dr. Diane Barnett, a Lucas County deputy coroner, said.

Just before midnight Saturday, Mr. Hottinger collided head-on with another bicyclist who was not hurt, Sandusky County sheriff's deputies said.

Mr. Hottinger was taken to Fremont Memorial Hospital and later transported by medical helicopter to St. Vincent.

Both bikes had no lights, and neither rider was wearing reflective clothing or a helmet. Also, nobody is supposed to ride on the trail after dusk, deputies said.
