ADRIAN

  • A 5K Bulldog Run will kick off a "New and Improved Homecoming 2005" event set for Saturday. The race starts at 8 a.m. Meet in the Merillat Sports and Fitness lobby. Cost is $12 per person in advance and $15 the day of the event. The football game against Olivet begins at 2 p.m. at Maple Stadium. Admission is free.

    Other highlights include free stand-up comedy by Seth Meyers from Saturday Night Live at 8 p.m. in Dawson Auditorium and musical and magical performances from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the center of the Adrian College campus, where children's activities will be offered.

    BRYAN

  • An emerald ash borer workshop is set for 7 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Williams County agricultural services building on Buffalo Road across from the Bryan Community Center here. Preregistration is required. Cost is $5.

    DELTA

  • Curt B. Witcher, manager of the Historical Genealogy Department at the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, Ind., will talk about the importance of genealogical research at 7 p.m. tomorrow at Trinity Lutheran Church, 410 Taylor St.

    FREMONT

  • Barb Brents and Kate Hausbeck, associate professors of sociology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, will present a free, public DVD lecture titled "Sexing the Sale: Pornification of the Popular" Wednesday, from noon to 2 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m., in the Student Activities Center.

  • The Birchard Public Library is offering two free hands-on computer classes this week. "Yahoo! Mail" takes place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday; and "Computer Fundamentals I" runs from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday. Register with the library.

  • "There's No Place Like Home" is the title of a photo contest to be held this week in the Fremont Community Recreation Complex multipurpose room on St. Joseph Street, where entries will be on display from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. Deadline for entries is Thursday at the park office or at Dumminger Photo, 901 East State St.

  • A community summit titled "Focus on Education and Continuous Learning" is set for 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday in Wesley Lodge, 5th and Central Avenue, following breakfast and registration, which start at 8 a.m.

    LUCKEY

  • The Troy Township Fire Department will hold an open house at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the fire station at 311 Krotzer St. Residents are encouraged to take part in a township-wide fire drill set for 7 p.m.

    NEWPORT, Mich.

  • Children's author Nancy Shaw will read from her books and show how a story develops into a finished book at noon Saturday at the Newport Branch Library, 8120 North Dixie Hwy.

    PERRYSBURG

  • "Keeping Kids Safe!" is the title of a panel discussion for parents of junior high students 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Way Public Library, 101 East Indiana Ave. Doors open at 6 p.m. Seating is limited.

    PORT CLINTON

  • The Magruder Hospital conference floor, 615 Fulton St., will be the site of two CPR classes offered this week. A class in adult CPR is set for 6 to 10 p.m. tomorrow; a class in infant and child CPR will be held from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday. Preregistration is required.   • The Port Clinton High School Alumni Association will host its second alumni gathering from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the school, 821 South Jefferson St. The evening will include a dinner, musical entertainment, and tours. Tickets are $7 per person.

    TIFFIN

  • The Court Appointed Special Advocate Volunteer Guardian Ad Litem Program of Seneca, Sandusky, and Wyandot counties will hold a fund-raiser tomorrow at Amvets, 1909 South State Rt. 100. Doors open at 5 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance from CASA or $10 at the door.

    TOLEDO

  • The Toledo Club Toastmasters will meet at 7 a.m. Friday on the fifth floor of the Toledo Club, Madison Avenue and 14th Street. The club is dedicated to self-improvement of speaking and listening skills. The meeting is open to the public.

  • Marcia Sloan Latta, a certified fund-raising executive who is associate vice president for advancement and director of development at Bowling Green State University, will talk about "Asking Without Fear" at 9 a.m. Friday at the Main Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, 325 Michigan St. The talk is about identifying viable prospects, cultivation techniques, and how to effectively ask for and close gifts. Cost is $50 per person. Admission is limited to 50 people.

  • Bob Waggoner, a National Football League official, will speak about his career when the American Legion Toledo Post 335 has its weekly luncheon at noon Friday at Toledo Club, Madison Avenue and 14th Street.

  • Bill Priest, chairman of the Genealogy by Computer Society (GCS) in Toledo, will talk about protection of genealogical information from disasters at the meeting of the Lucas County Chapter of the CGS set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Main Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, 325 Michigan St. The meeting is free and open to the public.

  • The Remember Me Support Group at St. Charles Mercy Hospital will hold the 20th annual Ecumenical Service of Remembrance at 2 p.m. Sunday at Resurrection Cemetery, 5725 Hill Ave.

    The group works to raise awareness about perinatal grief and to ensure that sensitive care is given to parents who experience a pregnancy loss, stillbirth, or newborn death. October is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.

    VAN WERT

  • Poet Maya Angelou will speak Saturday at the Starr Commonwealth Van Wert campus during the Montcalm School For Girls celebration and expansion event, which starts at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person. Seating is limited.

    WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP

  • An auction of seized and surplus vehicles, road, office, police, fire, and grounds equipment will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at 5714 Blessing Dr. Doors open at 8 a.m.
