FREMONT - A Michigan woman was killed Sunday evening when a sport utility vehicle she was riding in was struck by a tractor-trailer rig at a Sandusky County intersection.

Kamalaben Patel, 73, of Novi, Mich., was taken to Fremont Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to the Fremont post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the SUV, driven by Ms. Patel's son Prakinkumar Patel, 43, of Tiffin was southbound on State Rt. 590 at 8:38 p.m. when Mr. Patel failed to stop for a stop sign at U.S. 6. The eastbound semi, driven by Daniel Kleman, 47, of Ottawa, Ohio, hit the Patel vehicle in the front passenger side, where Ms. Patel was sitting.

Mr. Patel and his son, Prit Patel, 4, who also was a passenger in the vehicle, were taken by helicopter to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. Both were listed in good condition yesterday.

Troopers said no citations had been issued yesterday.
