PORT CLINTON Two men were rescued from the Portage River yesterday after their boats ran aground in shallow water.

A Coast Guard helicopter from Detroit was dispatched to assist the pair after Coast Guard personnel from Marblehead tried unsuccessfully to reach them.

The men were rescued unharmed about 5:30 a.m.

The craft, a 25-foot Bayliner and a 19-foot jet boat, became stuck about 40 yards offshore in the Portage, about a mile west of where it enters Lake Erie.
