About 2,000 Toledo Edison customers in West Toledo and Ottawa Hills were without power shortly yesterday because of an equipment malfunction.

Chuck Krueger, a spokesman for the utility company, said the power failure occurred in the area of Dorr Street and Richards Road just after 9 a.m. and last about 40 minutes.

The company was investigating the cause of the power failure yesterday evening. Mr. Krueger said a breaker near an electrical substation appears to have malfunctioned.
