BLUFFTON

  • Lee Snyder, president of Bluffton University, will give her final "State of the University" address at 11 a.m. tomorrow in Yoder Recital Hall. Ms. Lee is to retire at the end of this school year. Her presentation is free and open to the public.

  • Melissa Friesen, assistant professor of communication and theater at Bluffton University, will present "Nonviolent Representations of Stage Violence" at 4 p.m. Friday in Stutzman Lecture Hall in Centennial Hall at Bluffton University. The event is free and open to the public.

    BOWLING GREEN

  • "An Evening with Coach Herman Boone and Coach Bill Yoast" is the title of the Bowling Green State University event celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., to be held Thursday in the Lenhart Grand Ballroom of the Bowen-Thompson Student Union on the campus. The event starts at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. The overflow seating will be available in the Union's Multipurpose Room (Room 228), where the program will be shown via closed-circuit television.

  • The Wood County Park District needs volunteers to clean seeds for its native plant project from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at park district headquarters on Mercer Road. Register at www.wcparks.org.

  • Come peer at Saturn and enjoy the other night sky treats from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday at the star-gazing deck at Beaver Creek Preserve near Sycamore and Long Judson roads just southwest of Grand Rapids. Register at www.wcparks.org.

  • Explore the Slippery Elm Trail and Rudolph Savanna in winter from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the trail's Rudolph entrance. Register at www.wcparks.org.

    FINDLAY

  • "Reflection/Vision for the Future" is the theme of the Camp Fire USA Northwest Ohio annual meeting set for 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Owens Community College's Findlay campus.

  • Infants and toddlers under 3 and their adult companion will learn more about snow at 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. today at Oakwoods Nature Preserve off Hancock County Road 144 west of Findlay. The program is the first in a new series of winter Wee Ones in the Park programs.

    HOLLAND

  • Daryl F. Dwyer, an associate professor in the University of Toledo's Department of Earth, Ecological, and Environmental Studies, will speak at the League of Women Voters of Toledo-Lucas County's general meeting set for 7 p.m. Thursday at the Holland branch of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, 1032 South McCord Rd.

    NORWALK

  • The Vegetarian Society of Northern Ohio will have its annual Chinese New Year's Celebration dinner Sunday at the Peking House, 2 West Main St. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Serving starts at 7 p.m. The event is open to the public. One does not need to be a vegetarian to attend. The dinner will be served buffet or family style for $8.95 for adults and $6.95 for children 11 and under. Reservations suggested.

    TOLEDO

  • U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D., Toledo) will be the guest speaker at a meeting of the Ohio AFSCME Retiree Chapter 1184's subchapter 109 set for 10 a.m. today at AFSCME Headquarters, 420 South Reynolds Rd.

  • Ohio Treasurer of State Jennette B. Bradley will discuss Ohio finances during the Rotary Club of Toledo weekly meeting, which begins at noon today at Zenobia Shrine, 1511 Madison Ave.

  • Parents of eighth graders interested in attending St. John's Jesuit High School in the fall are invited to an information night at 7 p.m. tomorrow to learn about the school's academics, activities, sports, financial aid, and religious environment. A placement test is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday, with more tests to be offered in the coming months. Interested families should contact the director of admissions.

  • Melvin Newbern, the Toledo Ice head coach and general manager, will discuss "Torrid Tales About the Toledo Ice" during the American Legion Toledo Post 335 weekly luncheon regularly scheduled for noon Friday at The Toledo Club, Madison Avenue and 14th Street.

  • Richard Gergel, professor of art at Central Michigan University, will give an illustrated lecture titled "Statue of a Roman Officer" at

    7:30 p.m. Friday in the Little Theatre at the Toledo Museum of Art, 2445 Monroe St. This is the 10th annual lecture in honor of the late Curator Kurt T. Luckner, the museum's curator of ancient art from 1969 to 1995.
