Rocks in the mail

1/27/2006

Once runners have registered for a few races they have committed themselves to the mail marathon. Out of four race pitches in my mailbox yesterday, three were for rock n roll marathons San Diego , Virginia Beach, and Nashville. In my two marathon experiences it would have been better to burn the highlights to a CD. After 13 miles, I honestly can t recall any notes. Still, I appreciate the efforts.

Run with this

"I felt like I played in a very rough football game with no hitting above the waist."

Alan Page, former NFL player on running a marathon.

I live in St. Pete Beach Florida but read the Blade often online and as a 45-year-old who picked up running again 3 years ago I am about to run my 3rd marathon this week in Miami. It's supposed to be warm (80ish) but we start at 6am so that's a positive. I've run the HOPS (Tampa marathon) and New York City and would like to run the Chicago marathon this fall with some of my family members.

I appreciate this column as I am, at this point an avid runner.

I enjoy running in Toledo when I'm there because it's usually cooler and always less humid.

Thanks,
