Sylvania Township executive quits post

Brad Peebles, administrator of Sylvania Township for three years, resigned at the conclusion of last night's meeting of the township trustees.

Mr. Peebles, 47, of Lyons, Ohio, said it was clear that there was a philosophical difference between him and the two newly elected trustees and noted that they have begun a process to search for a new administrator.

His contract was renewed in December for him to work as administrator this year for $85,000. He said a settlement has been reached in principle, and it was time for him to leave the position.

Pamela Hanley, chairman of the trustees, and Dee Dee Liedel were elected in November and joined incumbent Carol Contrada to make up the board of trustees.

Ms. Hanley said during her campaign she would seek changes in the township administration. Last night, she said an agreement with Mr. Peebles has not yet been completed, but should be presented at a trustees' meeting later this month.

Mrs. Contrada said the job of administrator is "very public and very difficult."

She said Mr. Peebles has been "the flash point for everything controversial" in the township during his tenure.

He took the heat, she said, and has been a strong advocate for the township and its employees.

After the meeting, Ms. Hanley said Susan Wood, assistant administrator, would act in the top position.
