DELPHOS, Ohio A committee of Delphos residents that helped clean up the Miami and Erie Canal which runs through the heart of town has been awarded $10,000 by Dominion East Ohio, the largest gas distribution subsidiary of Dominion.

The Delphos Canal Commission Cleanup Committee was one of 10 nonprofit groups to receive the awards Tuesday from Dominion East.

Beginning in April, 2004, hundreds of volunteers have removed litter and other debris from the canal. The volunteers have removed more than 600 trees and shrubs to help stabilize its banks.

The biggest asset that Delphos has is this canal, said Sue Lang, chairman of the cleanup committee.
