ADRIAN

  • Phil Plait, an astronomer on the staff of Sonoma State University in northern California whose book, Bad Astronomy, debunks myths and hoaxes, will talk at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Robinson Planetarium at Adrian College.

    BLUFFTON

  • Bluffton University will host a Kids Night Out from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday in Founders Hall and Burcky Gym. Hosted by the Bluffton University baseball team, the Recreation Club, and students enrolled in games and social recreation classes, the event is open to elementary-age children.

    BOWLING GREEN

  • The Romance Readers book club will meet at the Wood County District Public Library, 251 North Main St., at 7 p.m. today to discuss The Guardian by Nicholas Sparks. The public is welcome.

  • Meet northwest Ohio home-brewer Nick Kusina as he discusses the basics of home brewing at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Wood County Park District headquarters on Mercer Road north of Bowling Green. Adults only. Register at wcparks.org.

  • Infants and toddlers 3 and under and their adult companions are invited to learn about local animals and where they spend the winter at 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. today at Oakwoods Nature Preserve off County Road 144 and Sandusky Street west of Findlay.   • Findlay Mayor Tony Iriti will present "Leadership: Understanding Your Community" at noon Wednesday in the University of Findlay's Rosewood Room in Henderson Dining Hall. The presentation is part of the Oiler Institute Leadership Enrichment Rejuvenation luncheon series. It is free and open to the public. Participants may bring a lunch or purchase lunch from the dining hall.

  • Galal Walker, director of the National Chinese Flagship Program at Ohio State University, will present "Doing Business with China" at 7 p.m. Thursday at the University of Findlay's Alumni Memorial Union. The presentation is free and open to the public.

  • A seminar on "How to Build a Culture of Accountability" is set for 8 a.m. to noon Thursday in Owens Community College's conference center on the Findlay-area campus.

    FREMONT

  • Michael F. Holt, Williams Professor of History at the University of Virginia, will be the guest speaker at the 16th annual Hayes Lecture on the Presidency set for 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the Hayes Museum. The topic is "Another Look at the Presidential Election of 1876." Reception, dinner and lecture is $30; lecture only is $10.

  • "Constellation Stations" is the name of an outdoor educational event about the moons and the stars to begin at 7 p.m. Friday at White Star Barn, County Road 65 just east of Route 300. Registration is required.

  • A Sandusky County Park District hike for health will start at 4 p.m. Thursday at Creek Bend Farm off State Rt. 590.

    MAUMEE

  • Toledoan Kenneth Dickson, a retired teacher whose book, Nothing Personal, Just Business, chronicles Toledo's bootleggers and gangs in the Prohibition era, will discuss "Taking a Chance in Toledo" at 10 a.m. today in the Maumee Library Auditorium, 501 River Rd. The lecture is part of a series sponsored by the Wolcott House Museum Guild and Maumee branch of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library.

  • Randall L. Buchman, professor emeritus of history at Defiance College, will speak on the importance of preserving local history at the Stryker Area Heritage Council's general membership meeting, to begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at Stryker United Methodist Church, 301 Cherry St.

  • An auction to be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday at the Mercy Community Service Center, 539 West Market St., will benefit the American Heart Association.

    TOLEDO

  • Lynne Walker will read from her book, The Essential Big Red: Selected Poems, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in the McMaster Center at the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, 325 Michigan St.

  • The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library's Reynolds Corners branch, 4833 Dorr St., will host its weekly puppet show at 7 p.m. Thursday. To register, call the library branch.

  • The Licensed Practical Nurse Association of Ohio Inc. will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Academy of Medicine, 4428 Secor Rd. The program is free and open to the public.
