Greater Birmingham VFW, 2161 Consaul, inspected Jan. 9. Critical violation: Observed red substance in canning jar in the keg cooler. Remove this product and discard. All food and drink must come from a licensed source. Four noncritical violations. Inspector: Bruce Heiser.

Waite High School, 301 Morrison, inspected Jan. 9. No sneeze guard or lid on cups of peppers and salsa at the nacho station to protect food from contamination. Two noncritical violations. Inspector: Jennifer Gottschalk.

Quizno's, 520 Madison, inspected Jan . 9. Critical violation: Observed ready-to-eat (RTE) foods thawing at room temperatures. Thaw RTE food in walk-in cooler, or in food prep sink under cold running water or in microwave for hot holding. Two noncritical violations. Inspector: Ryan Sekinger.

Wendy's, 1109 South, inspected Jan. 9. Critical violation: Observed butter and sour cream at room temperature. Store all potentially hazardous foods (PHF) cold at 45 degrees or less or hot at 135 degrees or more. Inspector: Sekinger.

The Diner, 3928 Lagrange, inspected Jan. 9. Critical violations: Observed employee drink without lid in kitchen. All employee drinks must have lids to prevent potential contamination. Observed wet wiping cloth on food prep surfaces. When not in use, store wet cloths in sanitizing solution with a concentration of chlorine 50-100 ppm. Repeat violation. Observed imporper storage raw animal products in coolers and freezers. Store all raw animal products below any other food times. Then continue to distribute raw animal products according to cooking temperatures to prevent cross contamination. Repeat violation. Observed various PHF in sliding door cooler without datemarks. All PHF kept longer than 24 hours after cooing, prepared, package, opened or seal is borken requires a datemark. Eight noncritical violations. Inspector: Kerry Cutcher.

IHOP, 4045 Talmadge, inspected Jan. 10. Critical violations: Critical violations: Upright cooler is holding PHF at 48-50 degrees. Out of temperataure items discarded. Repeat violation. Do not use this cooler. Second upright cooler holding omelette ingriedients at 45-47 degrees. Repair immediately to ensure that all foods hold at 41 degrees or less. Handskink at the cook line is blcoked by a trash can and not easily accessible. Handsink at waitress area is full of rags. Keep handsinks clear and accessible at all times. Observed imporoper storage order of eggs and RTE foods. No wipe cloth sanitizer bucket is set up at time of inspection. Five noncritical violations. Inspector: Kelly Sattler.
