COLUMBUS - Written comments will be accepted until June 14 about a state agency's plan to fix problems in the oldest part of the landfill in Oregon operated by Envirosafe Services of Ohio Inc.
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency said it has agreed to push back the comment deadline by a month, following concerns raised at a May 3 public hearing in East Toledo.
The agency wants Envirosafe to pump out leachate from the former Fondessy landfill, remove methane gas, fortify landfill caps, and clean up oily ponds.
The dumps in question are not connected to the hazardous waste pit that Envirosafe opened after acquiring the property in 1983.
The dumps were built as far back as the 1950s, before the modern era of laws covering disposal.
