DEFIANCE - A Napoleon woman and a Defiance man who had been riding a motorcycle together when it crashed just outside Defiance Sunday remained in Toledo Hospital last night where they were flown by medical helicopter.

Jessica A. Miller, 34, was in critical condition; Henry Butler, 39, was in fair condition.

Mr. Butler was driving west on Kiser Road about 7:45 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve just before the intersection of Canal Road in Defiance Township near the city of Defiance's southwestern tip. The motorcycle went off the left side of the road, struck a curb, then went through the intersection before coming to rest on its side in the middle of Canal Road, according to troopers at the Ohio Highway Patrol's Defiance post.

Charges were pending last night, the patrol said.
