Oregon gives $60,000 to jobs agency

The Oregon on the Bay Regional Economic Development Foundation is now $60,000 richer because of a contribution from Oregon City Council.

Council voted 7-0 last night to contribute the funds, which is a match to what the foundation received from private enterprises. The city gives the foundation up to $60,000 in matching funds annually.

The foundation was formed in 1993 to promote economic development in the city and to foster a healthy environment for business and development in the city.

In other action, council passed a resolution supporting efforts to restore the Great Lakes, joining 1,500 people - representing federal, state, and local governments; research institutions, and private citizens - working to develop an action plan to restore and protect the Great Lakes.

The resolution also states the city supports the Great Lakes Collaboration Implementation Act, introduced by Congress, which seeks $20 billion over a five-year period to fund projects that implement the action plan.
