Apples in the spotlight at Farmers Market

Live music by local bluegrass band Ten Mile Creek, an apple toss for charity, and an apple pie contest will be among the highlights of Apple Fest '06 today at Toledo Farmers Market.

The market is at 525 Market St. at Huron Street, two blocks south of Fifth Third Field. It's open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, with Happy the Clown entertaining from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Ten Mile Creek performing from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., apple toss for charity from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., a scavenger contest for children 12 and under at 10 a.m., and apple pie judging contest at 11 a.m.

Farmers will be sharing their favorite apple recipes throughout the day. From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., market visitors will be able to enter a drawing for a basket of goods from vendors valued at $250.
